GOLDSBORO, N.C. — The Goldsboro Police Department is once again asking for the public’s help in solving the nearly two-decade-old disappearance of Joy Marie Winters.
According to investigators, Winters was reported missing on May 5, 2006, just weeks before her 34th birthday. She was last known to be living on Holly Street in Goldsboro, although the exact address is unknown.
Police say the investigation determined that Winters’ landlord saw her getting into a white passenger vehicle, and she has not been seen since.
Originally from Texas, Winters moved to Goldsboro sometime around 2002 and briefly worked at the Taco Bell on Ash Street, according to investigators.
At the time of her disappearance, Winters was the mother of six children — three daughters and three sons — whose ages ranged from four months to 11 years old. One of her sons has shared the emotional toll her disappearance has taken on the family.
“The hardest part is the not knowing. Living in this constant state of uncertainty is an unbearable kind of grief. We are asking for any piece of information, no matter what it is, that can finally give our family answers.”
The Goldsboro Police Department is encouraging anyone with information about Joy Winters’ disappearance to come forward, no matter how small the detail may seem.
