WAYNE COUNTY, NC – A Dudley man is facing felony firearm and drug charges after a traffic stop conducted by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Violence Prevention & Response Team (ViPR) during a saturation patrol in southern Wayne County.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on July 17, 2026, when ViPR deputies were conducting proactive patrols aimed at reducing violent crime. Deputies initiated a traffic stop after observing a Chapter 20 traffic violation.
During the investigation, a K-9 unit was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle. A subsequent search led deputies to discover illegal narcotics and a concealed handgun in the possession of the driver.
Authorities identified the driver as Terry Tyrone Cobb Jr., 28, of Hope Blvd., Dudley. Investigators also determined Cobb had previous convictions for carrying a concealed handgun.
Cobb was arrested and transported to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office, where he was charged with:
- Felony Carrying a Concealed Gun
- Simple Possession of a Schedule VI Controlled Substance (Misdemeanor)
- Failure to Maintain Lane Control
He was issued a $25,000 secured bond.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said the arrest was made as part of the ViPR Team’s continued efforts to proactively address violent crime and illegal activity through targeted saturation patrols across the county.
