June 26, 2026, 89, Goldsboro – The Staff and Management of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors join with the Johnson and connected families to announce the earthly departure of Ms. Helen Frances Johnson, 89, of Goldsboro, NC.
Ms. Helen Frances Johnson was born in Pikeville, NC, to Viola Brown and Herman Battle on October 4, 1936.
Helen attended Pikeville School, where she completed the 12th grade.
Helen worked as a custodian and caregiver for many years, including employment at Beamon Brothers and Cherry Hospital and a temporary position in the transportation department. After that, she began taking care of most of her grandchildren until she became a foster grandparent for the WAGES Head Start for many years until her health declined.
She enjoyed cooking, drawing, arts and crafts, doing puzzles, watching her favorite TV shows, and talking on the phone to all her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Connie Johnson; her parents, Herman and Viola Battle; her brothers, Cleveland Brown and Eugene Battle, her eldest daughter, Glenda Brown Kornegay; her oldest grandchild, Cori DeCarlos Brown; a great-grandson,Sol Mateo Johnson; and a nephew, Walter Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memories, 3 daughters, Katrina Lynn White and Antoinette Sinclair of Goldsboro, NC, Sandra Johnson of Charlotte, NC, 3 sons, Connie L. Brown and Sherman Johnson of Goldsboro, NC, Calvetti Johnson of Amarillo, Texas, a Godson Apostle Haywood Nicholas Williams; 36 grandchildren, including Tamera Johnson (whom she reared) as well as Tequilla Johnson and Jay-Shon White. 59 great-grandchildren, including Jaylin Johnson (whom she reared), 16 great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in law Annie Johnson of Fremont, NC, 2 cousins Ralph Lassiter, and Virginia Coley of Goldsboro, NC, 2 nieces, Barbara White and Melody Brown Walker of South Carolina.
First and foremost, she loved the Lord, but she definitely loved her family and knew all of the great- and great-great-grandchildren by name.
Many of her grandchildren lived with her for many years, and she continued to help take care of them for as long as she was able, including her exceptional grandchild, Joshua Sinclair, whom she called “My Joshy”.
She was the glue that held her family together, and she left us all with a drop of that glue to keep going. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Services of Love & Compassionate Care have been entrusted to Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors and Cremations, LLC.
