July 8, 2026, 66, Goldsboro – Donald Anthony Kornegay, 66, peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born on August 8, 1959, in Dudley, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Leonard “L.F.” Kornegay and Beulah Kornegay.
Donald was a proud 1977 graduate of Southern Wayne High School. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy, faithfully serving from 1977 until 1981. He received an Honorable Discharge, a reflection of his dedication and commitment to his nation.
In 1983, Donald relocated to Albany, New York, where he began a career with the State of New York. He remained a loyal and dependable employee throughout his years of service before returning home to Goldsboro in 2014. Back in the community he loved, Donald continued his strong work ethic through his employment with WAGES and Habitat for Humanity until declining health required him to step away from the workforce. Known for his reliability, kind spirit, and willingness to help others, Donald earned the respect and affection of coworkers and friends alike. To know Donald was to appreciate his easygoing nature and genuine heart.
Outside of work, Donald found great joy in sports. He was an enthusiastic and faithful fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the North Carolina Tar Heels, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. Whether watching a football game or discussing the latest scores, sports brought him happiness and provided countless memories shared with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Deborah Kornegay, who passed away in 2012; his cherished son, A.J. Kornegay; and his brothers, Jimmy Kornegay and Nathaniel Kornegay.
