July 5, 2026, 85, Goldsboro – Raynold Dale “Jake” Saranthus, age 85, of Goldsboro, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, surrounded by his adoring and loving family.
Born on January 25, 1941, in Mobile, Alabama, he was the son of Andrew and Geannie Phillips Saranthus “Jake” served his country in the United States Army and was a long-time manager of the Highway 117 Truck Stop in Goldsboro, NC. He was a member of Spring Hill Original Free Will Baptist Church in Goldsboro. “Jake” was a man that was full of life, just the sight of him would brighten your day. He loved to play cards, also a longtime member of the B.S. Club.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00AM, Wednesday July 8, 2026 in the Chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Rev. Al Warrick officiating , interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. Flowers are welcome, or Memorial Donations may be directed to Spring Hill O.F.W.B. Church or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center. The family will greet friends Wednesday morning between 10:00AM – 10:45 AM at the funeral home at other times at the home of daughter, Dana Gurley 108 Laura Lane, (Rosewood community) Goldsboro.
Jake is survived by his children, Richard and wife Melinda Saranthus, Kenny and wife Bonnie Saranthus, Wilton Saranthus, Jake and wife Susan Saranthus, Karl Saranthus, Reese and wife Jill Saranthus, Tony and wife Cydney Kelly, Tim Kelly, and Dana Gurley; his bonus sons, Mike Champion and Sidney Champion (Champ); grandchildren, Haley and Zach Saranthus, Amy and husband Matt Houf, Blake and wife Tristen Saranthus, Alicia and husband Chad Peoples, Candace Montgomery, Devin and wife Taylor Saranthus, Cassidy Saranthus, Coty and wife Tori Saranthus, Kayla Saranthus, Kaitlyn Saranthus, Tori Saranthus, Chris and wife Hassie Kelly, Nick and wife Leah Kelly, JT Kelly, Doug Kelly, Crystal Kelly, Thomas Kelly and spouse Sabrina Newcomb, Scott and wife Sherri Herring, Kelli Gurley Bell, and Kerri Jo and husband Will Futrelle; great grandchildren, Blakely Saranthus, Evie Jane Saranthus, Cash Peoples, Taylor Montgomery, Wyatt Saranthus, Presley Saranthus, Joseph Kelly, Paige Kelly, Sophie Jean Kelly, Lawrence Kelly, Atticus Kelly, Landon Jacobs, Kevin Herring, Westin Herring, Averi Bell, and John Dallas Futrelle. also surviving is sister-in-law Patsy Hawkins.
Jake is preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Hawkins Saranthas, a son, Doug Kelly, and a son in law, Joe Gurley, also preceding him In death are his 17 siblings.
