GOLDSBORO, NC – Veterans experiencing homelessness or housing instability will have an opportunity to connect with essential services during the first collaborative Community Homeless Veterans Stand Down in Goldsboro on Wednesday, July 15.
The event is being hosted through a partnership between the Fayetteville VA Coastal Health Care System’s Goldsboro Community Based Outpatient Clinic, Nu Hope Community Center and the City of Goldsboro. Organizers say the event is designed to bring together local, state and federal agencies, nonprofit organizations and community partners to provide direct assistance to veterans and others in need.
The Community Homeless Veterans Stand Down will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Downtown Goldsboro HUB, 200 S. Center St.
Veterans attending the event will have access to a variety of free services, including medical screenings, veteran services, housing assistance, community resources, employment assistance through NCWorks, referrals for local, state and federal programs, and free haircuts. Lunch will also be provided for attendees.
Organizers hope the event will raise awareness of available resources while helping veterans facing homelessness or housing insecurity connect with the support they need. Community members experiencing housing instability are also encouraged to attend and learn about available assistance.
The Stand Down is being held in partnership with several organizations, including the Goldsboro Housing Authority, the Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and Hope Extended, along with numerous other community partners.
Veterans planning to attend are asked to bring a VA identification card or a copy of their DD-214 discharge paperwork, if available.
