GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Community members gathered Saturday afternoon to celebrate the official ribbon cutting of the James & Pine Memorial Parklet, a new public space dedicated to preserving and honoring the rich history of Goldsboro’s historic James & Pine Black Business District.
The ceremony, held at 1:30 p.m. on June 20, marked the beginning of a new chapter in remembering the entrepreneurs, business owners, and community leaders who helped shape the city through generations of perseverance, innovation, and service.
The memorial parklet serves as a tribute to the thriving Black business community that once flourished in the James and Pine streets area, a district that played a vital role in Goldsboro’s economic and cultural development during an era when opportunities for African American entrepreneurs were often limited.
Organizers said the project is designed not only to preserve the stories of the past but also to educate and inspire future generations. Through the parklet, visitors can reflect on the contributions of the men and women whose businesses, leadership, and community involvement helped lay the foundation for progress in Goldsboro.
The ribbon cutting brought together residents, local leaders, historians, and supporters who shared in celebrating the district’s enduring legacy and the impact it continues to have on the community today.
As the city looks toward the future, the James & Pine Memorial Parklet stands as a permanent reminder of the resilience, determination, and entrepreneurial spirit that helped define one of Goldsboro’s most significant historic districts.
