PIKEVILLE, N.C. — Residents and visitors are invited to Dee’s Memorial Park on Saturday, June 27, for Freedom Fireworks 2026, a community celebration honoring Pikeville’s 135th anniversary and America’s upcoming 250th birthday.
The event will serve as both a patriotic celebration and a tribute to the history of Pikeville, which was officially chartered in 1891. Organizers say the evening will provide an opportunity for families to come together, reflect on the town’s rich heritage, and celebrate the community that has helped Pikeville earn its nickname, “The Gem of Wayne County.”
A centerpiece of this year’s event will be the Pikeville Memory Walk, an interactive journey through the people, businesses, landmarks, and historic moments that have shaped the town over the past 135 years. Visitors will have the chance to learn about Pikeville’s railroad roots, its agricultural heritage, longtime local businesses, and the residents whose contributions helped build the community.
The Memory Walk will also highlight notable chapters of Pikeville’s history, including the famed Pikeville Horse Sales at Doby Howell’s, generations of military veterans and hometown heroes, and businesses such as Crawford Furniture, Pikeville Insurance, and Collier Motors, known as the last AMC dealership in America.
Town leaders hope the event will inspire residents to celebrate not only Pikeville’s past but also its future.
As families gather for the festivities and fireworks display, organizers say Freedom Fireworks 2026 will be a chance to honor the values, traditions, and community spirit that have defined Pikeville for more than a century.
The event is open to the public and promises an evening of history, patriotism, community pride, and celebration.
