GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Residents from across Wayne County gathered to celebrate freedom, culture, and community during the Juneteenth Unity & Heritage Festival, a free, family-friendly event honoring the significance of Juneteenth and African American heritage.
The festival commemorated Juneteenth, the federal holiday marking the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Through music, food, cultural exhibits, and community engagement, the event provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on history while celebrating the contributions and achievements of African Americans.
Kariana “KayTee” Taylor, one of the event’s organizers, said the festival was created to provide a space where residents could celebrate African American heritage, learn about the significance of Juneteenth, and strengthen connections throughout the community.
Goldsboro Mayor Charles Gaylor expressed support for the event, noting that the city’s diversity and strong sense of community make celebrations like the Juneteenth Unity & Heritage Festival especially meaningful.
Festivalgoers enjoyed performances from Total Voices of Praise, Bryan Lewis, Prishonda Daniels, Juicedamamba, DeAonna Williams, Artxecute, and Triple D, while DJ C-Rai kept the crowd entertained throughout the day. Local vendors, food trucks, cultural showcases, and community resource organizations also contributed to the festive atmosphere.
Organizers said the event successfully brought together people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate the legacy of Juneteenth while promoting unity, education, and community pride.
As attendees enjoyed the day’s activities, the festival served as a reminder of the importance of remembering the past, celebrating progress, and continuing to build a stronger, more connected community for future generations.
