WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A major manufacturing expansion that is expected to bring hundreds of new jobs and millions in investment to Wayne County has received statewide recognition from the North Carolina Economic Development Association (NCEDA).
The expansion project by Prolec GE Waukesha was recently named NCEDA’s 2026 Mid-Sized Market Deal of the Year, recognizing one of the state’s most significant economic development successes of the past year.
In addition to the project award, Julie Graham— the lead economic developer who helped guide the project from concept to reality — was recognized for her leadership and role in securing the transformational investment for Wayne County.
The award-winning project includes a $140 million investment and the creation of 330 new jobs, further strengthening Wayne County’s position as a manufacturing hub in Eastern North Carolina.
Economic development leaders noted that projects of this magnitude are the result of years of planning, relationship-building, and collaboration among local, regional, and state partners. From the earliest discussions through project development and groundbreaking, Graham worked closely with stakeholders across Wayne County and North Carolina to help bring the expansion to fruition.
Officials said the recognition reflects not only the success of a single project but also the long-term impact it will have on the community. The investment is expected to create new career opportunities for local residents, enhance the region’s industrial base, and support continued economic growth throughout Eastern North Carolina.
Community leaders praised the teamwork that made the project possible, emphasizing the collective efforts of economic developers, local governments, state agencies, educational institutions, and business partners.
The NCEDA award highlights Wayne County’s growing reputation as a destination for business investment and underscores the importance of strategic economic development efforts in attracting new opportunities to the region.
