This week’s WGBR Pet of the Week powered by Jackson & Sons features Moen, a lovable lab mix who is searching for a forever family after spending several months at Wayne County Animal Services.
Moen, a black-and-white lab mix estimated to be around four years old, has been at the shelter since Feb. 25, 2026. Shelter staff say she is fully vetted, spayed, and ready to go home with the right family today.
While shelter life can be stressful for some animals, staff say Moen’s gentle personality shines through despite her shy demeanor.
“She is a little nervous,” said Linda with Wayne County Animal Services during this week’s Pet of the Week segment. “I don’t know if it’s the shelter that has made her nervous, but she just needs a home to help build her confidence back up.”
Staff describe Moen as an “absolute sweetheart” who does great on a leash and simply needs a loving home where she can thrive.
Residents interested in adopting Moen can visit Wayne County Animal Services at 1600 Clingman Street in Goldsboro. Prospective adopters must complete an application, and if an animal is already spayed or neutered and fully vetted—as Moen is—they may be able to take their new pet home the same day.
The adoption fee is $65.
Wayne County Animal Services currently has numerous dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies available for adoption. The shelter also conducts surgeries twice each month to prepare animals for adoption.
In addition to adoptions, the shelter is always accepting donations to help care for its animals. Needed items include towels, blankets, and canned food for dogs and cats.
“Just want to try to find homes for all of our sweet babies at the shelter,” Linda said.
