WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — Wayne County Animal Services has reopened to the public following a temporary closure for facility repairs, county officials announced.
The shelter had closed its doors effective immediately while necessary repairs were completed to ensure the safety of staff, visitors, and animals housed at the facility. During the closure, Animal Services continued responding to emergency situations, including aggressive domestic animals, injured domestic animals, and animal bite incidents.
County officials thanked residents for their patience and understanding throughout the repair process.
“Wayne County Animal Services is back open following facility repairs. We appreciate our residents for their patience during this closure,” officials said in an announcement.
While the facility was closed, residents experiencing animal-related emergencies were instructed to contact 911 for assistance. Essential services remained available despite public access being temporarily suspended.
The reopening restores normal operations at Animal Services, allowing residents once again to access shelter services, including pet adoptions, owner surrenders, and other animal care resources.
Wayne County Animal Services plays a critical role in protecting public safety and caring for animals throughout the county. Officials said the temporary closure was necessary to maintain a safe environment while repairs were completed.
Residents are encouraged to contact Wayne County Animal Services directly for current hours of operation and available services.
