MOUNT OLIVE, NC — Residents will have an opportunity later this month to review and comment on the Town of Mount Olive’s proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year during a public hearing scheduled for June 22.
According to a public notice issued by the town, the Budget Officer has submitted the proposed budget and budget message to the mayor and Board of Commissioners in accordance with North Carolina General Statute 159-12.
The proposed budget is available for public inspection at the Town Clerk’s Office, the Town Manager’s Office, and on the Town of Mount Olive’s website. Residents may review the document during normal business hours until the budget ordinance is formally adopted.
The public hearing on the proposed spending plan will be held Monday, June 22, 2026, at 6 p.m. in the Mount Olive Municipal Courtroom, located at 114 E. James Street.
In addition to the budget hearing, town officials announced that an item will be added to the beginning of the meeting agenda to consider approval of an amended resolution calling for a special election. The proposed election would allow voters to decide whether to implement four-year staggered terms for the mayor and members of the Board of Commissioners.
The proposed change would require voter approval before taking effect.
Town officials encourage residents to attend the hearing and provide feedback on the proposed budget and other matters scheduled for consideration.
