June 7, 2026, 79, Mount Olive – James Franklin Bennett, 79, resident of the Indian Springs community near Mount Olive, passed away just minutes into the new day of Sunday, June 7, 2026, while at the home of a son.
Mr. Bennett began his career in mechanics with C. L. Snipes Ford in Goldsboro, followed by he and his late wife, Jean, owning and operating Bennett’s Garage at their home. Mr. Bennett was a faithful member of the Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church.
His life will be remembered Friday, June 12, at 11:00 a.m. at a service in Hillcrest Cemetery at Newton Grove. Officiating will be the Rev. B. L. Efird. Friends and relatives may greet the family at the cemetery, and at other times at the home of Jamie and Lisa Bennett.
Mr.Bennett leaves behind a loving family which includes two sons, James Timothy “Jamie” and Lisa Bennett, of Mount Olive, and William Edward “Eddie” and Roxie Bennett, of Indiana; three grandchildren, Robert Bennett and wife, Emily, of Marietta, Ga., Amber Smith of Mount Olive, and Cody Bennett of Indiana; two great-grandchildren, Stella Smith of the home, and Oliver Eages of Marietta; two brothers, John H. Bennett, Jr. of Clinton, and Bobby Bennett of Fayetteville; two sisters, Sarah B. Pope of Clinton, and Joyce B. Jones of Mount Olive; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jean Pollock Bennett; a daughter, Tammy Jean Bennett; a grandson, Justin Cole Bennett; his parents, John Henry and Lessie Bennett; a brother, Bill Bennett; and a sister, Gertrude B. Gregory.
