June 2, 2026, 86, Goldsboro – Rebecca Jane “Becky” Houser Umstead, 86, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Brookdale Country Day Road.
Born in Gaston County on June 7, 1939, Becky was the daughter of the late Marvin L. Houser and Anabel Black Houser. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Allan Wade Umstead; her brother, Jack Houser; her sister, Ann Court; and her special friend, David Bailey.
Becky was a graduate of Louisburg College and was a dedicated partner alongside her husband in the family business, Premiere Carpets of Goldsboro, beginning in 1972. While she valued her work, her greatest joy was her family. She devoted herself to caring for and supporting her children as they grew, creating a home filled with love, encouragement, and lasting memories. Her family remained the center of her life, and she took immense pride in each of their accomplishments.
A woman of strong faith, Becky was a faithful member of St. Paul Methodist Church. Her relationship with the Lord guided her life and provided her with strength, comfort, and purpose. She lived with kindness, grace, and a servant’s heart, touching the lives of many through her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Becky leaves behind her son, Chuck Umstead and wife, Cindy, of Goldsboro; her daughter, LeAnn Umstead Crocker and husband, John, of Dudley; her grandchildren, Charlie Umstead, Sam Crocker, and Holly Crocker; and her step-grandchildren, Emily D. Sparks and Ashleigh D. Henderson. She is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her friendship and love.
At Becky’s request, no formal service will be held. She will be laid to rest privately beside her husband at Willow Dale Cemetery.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Brookdale Country Day Road for the exceptional care, compassion, and friendship they provided Becky during her residency. They also express sincere appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for the comfort, support, and loving care shown to Becky and her family during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Becky’s memory to St. Paul Methodist Church, 204 E. Chestnut Street, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or to the Gideons, Goldsboro North Camp, P.O. Box 10093, Goldsboro, NC 27532.
