MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Town of Mount Olive has announced a temporary extension on water bill late fees for the months of May and June 2026.
Effective immediately, the town will delay the application of late fees by 10 days. Late fees, which are normally assessed on the 16th of each month, will instead be applied on May 26 and June 26, 2026.
Town officials said normal late fee schedules will resume beginning July 16, 2026.
The announcement follows action taken by the Mount Olive Board of Commissioners during its regular meeting on April 6, 2026. During that meeting, board members voted to reduce water bill late fees from $10 to $5 and reconnect fees from $100 to $50.
Those reduced fees are scheduled to take effect on July 1, 2026.
In addition, the Board of Commissioners is expected to consider the removal of water bill surcharge fees during its upcoming regular meeting on June 2, 2026.
Town leaders say the changes are part of ongoing efforts to provide financial relief and improve affordability for utility customers.
