GOLDSBORO, N.C. – The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month on Becton Circle.
According to authorities, deputies responded Sunday, May 3, 2026, to 214 Becton Circle in reference to a shots fired call. When deputies arrived, they discovered that a disturbance had occurred between two male subjects and that one individual had been shot.
Wayne County EMS responded to the scene and provided medical treatment to the victim. However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Zavion Shyhem Hardy.
Detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were called to investigate the incident. During the investigation, detectives learned that Hardy allegedly brandished a firearm in a threatening manner toward another person at the residence. Investigators said the other individual then pulled a firearm and shot Hardy.
Authorities said detectives have conducted multiple interviews with those involved, and the investigation remains ongoing at this time.
