May 5, 2026, 94, Goldsboro – Janet Smith McKeel, 94, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wayne County on October 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Luther Jarman Smith and Lillian Yelverton Smith.
In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Worth McKeel and sister, Gloria Simpson.
Janet is survived by her daughter, Linda Hunt (Rick); son, David McKeel; and several nieces and nephews.
Janet will be remembered by her family as a loving wife and mother.
Janet worked with various businesses in Goldsboro as a secretary and office manager. She had also worked as a reimbursement clerk with Wayne County Mental Health.
Along with her husband, Janet worked closely with the Goldsboro Downtown Lion’s Club and served as the first president of the Goldsboro Ladies Lion’s Club.
A service to celebrate Janet’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026 at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Andy Stovall officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Kitty Askins Hospice Center for the love and care provided to Janet in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
