GOLDSBORO, N.C. – The Wayne County Board of Commissioners will take up a wide-ranging agenda at its upcoming meeting, featuring community recognitions, development approvals, and key financial discussions.
The meeting will open with several special presentations, including a motion to recognize May 2025 as Mental Health Month in Wayne County. The proclamation will be presented by Emily Peacock and aims to highlight the importance of mental health awareness and access to care.
Commissioners will also consider approving a proclamation for National Nurses Week, to be read by Brenna Wolfe, honoring the contributions of nurses across the county.
In recognition of public safety service, Larry Pierce will present a proclamation for National Law Enforcement Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day. Additional proclamations include Clerks to the Boards of County Commissioners Week, presented by Ginger Moore, and Medical Laboratory Professionals’ Week, presented by Leah Grimmer.
Under the consent agenda, commissioners are expected to review and potentially approve a series of routine but impactful items, including budget amendments, tax-related applications, and multiple subdivision plats such as Riley Crossing, Eagle Place, Creeks Edge Section 5, and Derby Ridge Section 1—reflecting continued residential development across the county.
Other notable items include a proposed lease amendment between Goldsboro-Wayne Transportation Authority and the City of Goldsboro, as well as a memorandum of understanding with Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church to host a summer learning studio through the Wayne County Public Library.
Commissioners will also consider approving an audit contract with Nunn, Brashear & Uzzell, P.A. and delegating limited authority to the county manager for short-term property leases.
Public hearing scheduling will also be addressed, including a motion to reschedule a hearing on economic incentives for “Project Istanbul” and to establish a new hearing date for “Project Bull.” Both hearings are expected to take place later in May at the Wayne County Courthouse Annex.
In new business, commissioners will receive a presentation on the proposed 2025–2026 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), along with an update from Davenport & Company LLC, offering insight into the county’s long-term financial planning and infrastructure priorities.
The meeting will conclude with a public comment period, giving residents an opportunity to speak directly to commissioners.
