The Careers Electric Summer Academy will provide students with hands-on training and real-world experience as they learn basic wiring, safety practices, and proper tool usage. Participants will connect with local employers and industry professionals as they explore career pathways in the electrical industry.
WCC is partnering with Pitt Electric to offer the pre-apprenticeship program, which will help students discover how to pursue apprenticeships and entry-level career opportunities.
The summer academy will run from June 8 through July 22. It is geared toward high school juniors and seniors with an interest in the electrical field. Participants must be at least 16 years old by May 20.
Students will receive a stipend and a tool kit upon completion of the program.
The program is an initiative of the Siemens Foundation. Its goal is to expand access to high-quality electrical training and create clear pathways to well-paying, in-demand electrical careers, meeting the nation’s growing electrification needs.
The Siemens Foundation has selected North Carolina to be the first state to implement the Careers Electric program. The organization launched Careers Electric with a $9.25 million investment, aiming to train 25,000 people in its first 10 years.
