April 9, 2026, 83, Goldsboro – Lonnie Casey, Jr., 83, passed away on April 9, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, independence, and dedication to his community. Born on January 7, 1943, in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Lonnie Casey, Sr. and Hazel Whitley Casey.
A lifelong resident of Wayne County, Lonnie was known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He was a self-employed farmer who took great pride in working the land, a calling that shaped both his livelihood and his character. In addition to farming, he managed a mobile home park and was the owner of Poor Boys Auction Company, where he built lasting relationships with many throughout the community.
Lonnie was also deeply committed to civic involvement. He served as president of the Wayne County Watchdog Committee, where he worked diligently to advocate for accountability and the well-being of his community. His voice, leadership, and determination made a lasting impact on those around him.
He will be remembered as a man who valued honesty, hard work, and standing up for what he believed in. Lonnie’s presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his sons, Michael Casey and wife, Beth, and Mark Casey; four grandchildren; his brothers, David Casey and James Casey and wife, Nina; along with several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
Services to celebrate Lonnie’s life will be held at a later date.
