April 7, 2026, 89, Goldsboro – Bobby Dill Merritt, 89, of Goldsboro. North Carolina passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday April 7th.
Born March 14, 1937 in Goldsboro, NC, Bobby was the son of the late Speros and Mable Nasekos. Bobby lived in Goldsboro before joining the army. He was a veteran of United States Army and was stationed in Germany while serving during the Korean War 1954-1957.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 41 years, Brenda, his daughters Debbie Phillips (husband Ronnie), Teresa Price (husband Ken), stepdaughter Angie Hinson (husband David) and stepson Kenneth Mason (wife Melinda); his grandchildren Chris Phillips (wife Tabitha), Nathan Philips, Ray Potts (wife Emily). He had six great grandchildren – Savannah Lutze, Ethan Potts, Jordan Phillips, Wyatt Phillips, Colton Phillips and Corbin Phillips and two great great-grandchildren – Marshall Lutze and Oaklie Evans. He also had six step grandchildren – Hunter Hinson, Jacob Hinson, Brooke Travis, Ashley Adams, Elizabeth Price and Kenneth Price; and eight step great grandchildren – Laken and Reese Adams, Mason Cline Jordyn, Paisley and Harper Grantham; and Trenton Hinson and Elora Hinson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
After leaving the army, Bobby moved to Virginia where he worked as a printer for the government at Ft Belvoir, printing for the Department of Army. He also worked on printing presses. Upon retirement as a federal employee, Bobby moved back to North Carolina where he also repaired printing presses across the state. He lived in Beaufort for several years and managed an apartment complex. While in Beaufort, Bobby enjoyed the beach, camping and fishing.
Later in life, Bobby and his wife returned to Mt. Olive to care for his aging mother. During this time, he chose to go to truck driving school. Upon successful completion, he began a job with Averette Express where he delivered supplies to several hospitals across eastern North Carolina.
Bobby was a member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge in Fredericksburg Virgina. He received his Scottish Rites Mason and Shriners 50-year certificates on May 11, 2024. He supported the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals for over 50 years. Bobby was a devoted husband; he was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking with his wife.
A visitation will be held at Seymour Funeral Home on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:30 am. A private military graveside service for the family will follow at the Eastern Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro with Rev. Andy Stovall officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Bobby’s memory to 3HC, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
