February 8, 2026, 5, Whitsett – Erik Juan Barksdale, 56, of Whitsett, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2026. After a courageous year-and-a- half battle with cancer, he entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His passing has left our hearts deeply saddened and forever changed.
Erik was born October 13, 1969, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Diane Barksdale and Mitchell Hill. He was a beloved son; a loving and devoted father and grandfather; a cherished brother, nephew, and cousin; and a loyal friend to many.
His Christian faith was the foundation of Erik’s life and guided him through every season. Even during moments of uncertainty, he leaned on God’s strength and grace. Throughout his illness,
Erik faced each day with courage, humility, and trust in the Lord. His life stands as a powerful testimony of faith, perseverance, and quiet strength.
Erik was known for his lively spirit, warm humor, and infectious smile. He opened his heart to family and friends, always making himself available with a listening ear, a word of encouragement, or a reassuring presence.
Erik also had a lifelong love for basketball, playing during his high school years at North Duplin High School and later at Mount Olive College. Later in life, he found great joy on the golf course, where the game offered fellowship, peace, and many cherished memories with family and friends.
Above all, Erik was a loving and dedicated father who cherished his daughters, Erin Richardson and Lauren Barksdale, beyond measure.
Erik was preceded in death by his father, Mitchell Hill, and his grandparents, Lillie Mae Barksdale, Tempie Hill, and Mozell Hill.
Erik leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Diane Barksdale; his daughters, Erin Richardson (Camden) and Lauren Barksdale (Travis); three grandchildren, Layla Tucker, Liam Tucker, and Magnolia Richardson; his significant other, Shannon Armstrong; his brothers, Darrell Barksdale and Craig Barksdale; his sister, Tia Pearsall; his cousin, Terrell Barksdale; the mother of his children, Lynn Barksdale; his great aunt, Dr. Annie Ruth Osbourne, three uncles, five aunts, and a host of close friends who became family. He is also survived by his best friend, Michael Parker.
