ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The University of Mount Olive men’s golf team opened its spring season competing against one of the toughest fields of the year at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate Invitational, hosted by Lincoln Memorial University.
The Trojans finished 16th out of 18 teams in a tournament that featured 11 nationally ranked programs, including five teams ranked inside the top 10 nationally: Wingate (6th), Georgia Southwestern (7th), St. Mary’s (Texas) (8th), Columbus State (9th), and Catawba (10th).
St. Mary’s (Texas) captured the team championship at one-over par, with North Georgia finishing second at +11. Georgia Southwestern and Catawba tied for third at +24, while Wingate rounded out the top five at +28.
Individually, Oscar Lönnqvist led Mount Olive, tying for 37th place at 12-over par. He opened the tournament with an even-par round and followed with a two-over performance in the second round.
Jonas Bakker tied for 60th overall, while Shawn Benson (T86), Matthew Richardson (T89), and Lavrans Broen Holm (T91) completed the scoring for the Trojans.
Mount Olive returns to action March 10–11 at the Oldfield Classic, hosted by USC Beaufort in Bluffton, South Carolina.
