January 27, 2026, 69, Princeton – Arthur Linwood Hughes, 69, of Princeton went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. He was born on April 21, 1956 in Wayne County to the late Wilbert Linwood Hughes and Emma Lee Holloman Hughes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wilbert Hughes and a sister, Brenda Freedman.
He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman, welder and millwright, but more than that a loving husband, father, Pa and friend. The seeds he planted have grown and flourished into a lasting legacy.
He looked after the community and welcomed anyone to be a part of his family, treating them like his own. He took care of his family every way he knew how, taking the time to teach and guide as an example of strength and faith. He was loved dearly and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Teresa Williford Hughes of 50 years; sons, Jamie Hughes (Lisa) of Selma, Michael Hughes (Kelly Jo) of Mt. Olive; brother, Kenneth Hughes (Melissa) of Smithfield; and 4 grandchildren, Logan “sweet pea”, Mckalyn “mash rabbit”, Anna “butterbean”, and Aubrey “jellybean”.
The family will receive friends at the home of Arthur and Teresa at 274 Mill Creek Road, Princeton, NC 27569.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the SECU Hospice House, 476 Hospital Road, Smithfield, NC 27577 in his memory.
