January 6, 2026, 92, Goldsboro – Mildred Koonce Parsons, lovingly known as Milli, went home to be with her Lord and Savior early Tuesday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center, surrounded by the love and presence of her family. Her life was a testament to faith, service, and devotion to those she loved.
Milli was born in Sampson County on February 21, 1933, to the late Mitchell Koonce and Lilly Hainey Koonce. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her beloved husband, Harris Eugene Parsons; her brother, Kenneth Koonce; her sister, Frances Waters; and her brother-in-law, Linwood Johnson.
A woman of strong character and compassion, Milli dedicated many years of her professional life to serving others as a case worker with Wayne County Social Services, retiring after a faithful and meaningful career. Her work reflected her heart—one that was always willing to help, encourage, and care for those in need.
Most of all, Milli’s life was rooted in her faith. She was a charter member of Adamsville Baptist Church, where she faithfully worshiped, served, and built lifelong friendships. Her Christian walk guided her daily life and was evident in her kindness, humility, and love for others.
Family was at the center of Milli’s world. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and extended family, and her love for them was unwavering and unconditional. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, and love that will continue to live on through them.
Milli is survived by her children, Roderick Eugene Parsons and wife, Thais; Charles Bender Parsons and wife, Barbara; and Wayne Lynn Parsons and wife, Kim; her grandchildren, Zachary Harris Parsons, John Haines Gallion IV, Molly Ballard, and Sam Ballard and wife, Samantha; her brother, Richard Koonce and wife, Diane; her sister, Cindy Johnson; her sister-in-law, June Koonce; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved very much.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Milli’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel, with Pastor Rick Overman officiating. Interment will be held at Wayne Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers or memorials, the family requests that donations may be made in Milli’s memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, National Headquarters, 6520 N. Andrews Ave., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309-2132, or to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
Though she will be deeply missed, those who loved Milli rejoice in knowing she is now healed, at peace, and rejoicing in the presence of her Savior.
