January 9, 2026, 98, Fremont – Jean Smith Jeffreys, 98, passed away Friday evening, January 9, 2026, at her home in Fremont with her family by her side.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 15th at 3:00 PM at Fremont Missionary Baptist Church. The family will greet friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial will then follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont.
She was born in Wayne County on January 31, 1927 to the late Paul Bennett Smith and Myrtle Day Smith. She was a lifelong member of Fremont Missionary Baptist Church and will be missed by all. She was an avid animal lover, especially watching and feeding her bluebirds and caring for her feline companions.
Her greatest passion was her family and the special relationships she had with her grandkids and great-grandchildren. Although she was nearly 99 years old, she maintained the mental sharpness and energy of her youth.
Mrs. Jeffreys is survived by one son, Paul B. Jeffreys Sr. and wife, Mary Lee of Fremont; two grandchildren, Bennett Jeffreys (Emma) and Heyward Jeffreys (Tressa); three great-grandchildren, Aurelia Moon, James Arthur and Aspyn Jean with one grandchild on the way.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Marvin Jeffreys.
