January 6, 2026, 66, Goldsboro – Burl Jordan Mitchell, 66, passed away peacefully at his home on January 6, 2026. Born on July 15, 1959, in Wayne County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Chester Burl Mitchell Jr. and Dorothy Carol Mitchell.
Burl lived a life marked by kindness, loyalty, and quiet strength. He found joy in the simple pleasures—casting a fishing line, preparing a great meal, and setting out to explore new places through travel. Known as an excellent cook, his kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and love. Burl was a fantastic neighbor, a great friend, and by all accounts, the best husband ever.
For 39 years, Burl shared a devoted marriage with the love of his life, Teresa Trivette, building a life grounded in companionship, respect, and unwavering love. He was also deeply devoted to his cherished “furbaby,” Darlene, who brought him endless joy.
In addition to his wife, Burl is survived by his brothers, Andy Mitchell (Sabrina) and Larry Mitchell (Lisa); four nephews; one niece; one great-niece; and his best friend since high school, Neal Godwin (Irene). He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends who will forever treasure his friendship, generosity, and gentle spirit.
A Time of Reflection to honor Burl’s life will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
Burl Jordan Mitchell will be remembered for his loving heart, his steadfast presence, and the many lives he touched simply by being himself. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the meals cooked in his honor, and the love he gave so freely.
The family will also honor Burl’s life in the spring with a “pigpicking” per his request. Invitations will be forthcoming.
