January 4, 2026, 84, Goldsboro – Peggy Davis Laws, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 4, 2026, while surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was a beautiful testimony of faith, service, and unconditional love.
Peggy was born in Duplin County on September 12, 1941, to the late Hubert Davis and Lois Spence Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her precious great-great-granddaughter, Adalyn Mae Kornegay; and her brothers, C.G. Davis and Avery Davis.
For many years, Peggy worked faithfully with Craftex and later devoted herself to caring for the elderly, a role that perfectly reflected her gentle spirit and servant’s heart. A devoted member of Walker Memorial Church, Peggy was actively involved in numerous ministries, always seeking opportunities to share the love of God. She especially cherished singing alongside her husband in their Rest Home Ministry, where her joyful voice and kind heart touched countless lives. Serving the Lord was not just important to Peggy—it was the foundation of her life.
Peggy found great joy in God’s creation and was happiest when she was outdoors, whether fishing, tending her flowers, canning and freezing vegetables, or simply working in her yard picking up pine cones. She saw God’s beauty in the simple things and lived with gratitude for His blessings.
Family was the center of Peggy’s world. She delighted in cooking for those she loved, and nothing brought her more happiness than gathering everyone around the table. Her famous red velvet cake was a treasured family tradition and always requested for birthdays. Hearing her grandchildren lovingly call her “Nana” was one of her greatest joys.
Peggy also had a love for shopping and took pride in finding just the right item or a special bargain. She always carried herself with grace, and her warm, radiant smile reflected the kindness and joy that lived within her heart.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Peggy’s life at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel with Pastor Pete Williams officiating. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park. At other times the family will be at the home of Thomas and Kelly Kornegay, 209 Hardy Talton Road, N.E., Pikeville, NC 27863.
She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 48 years, Al Laws; her daughter, Sherrie Kornegay and husband, Lawrence; her son, Al Laws II and wife, Denise; grandchildren, Thomas Lawrence “Tommy” Kornegay II and wife, Kelly, Travis Lee Kornegay and wife, Bethany, Jennifer Denise King, and Joshua Lee Laws; great-grandchildren, Brent Gauge Norris and wife, Bailey, Thomas Lawrence “Tank” Kornegay III, Kayden Lee Newcomb, Avery Pearl Spencer, Teagon Lawson Kornegay, Adelaide Olivia Kornegay, and Hannah Goodson; and her great-great-grandchild, Brantley Keith Norris. She is also survived by her sister, Shelby Kearney.
Peggy’s life leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion. Though she will be deeply missed, her family rejoices in knowing she is now whole, healed, and praising her Savior.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made in Peggy’s memory to Walker Memorial Church.
