INDIANAPOLIS (April 30) — The University of Mount Olive women’s lacrosse team has been ranked eighth in the final NCAA Division II South Regional rankings released Tuesday morning by the NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Committee, solidifying its place in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
With an 11-7 overall record, Mount Olive clinched an automatic bid to the national tournament after winning its fifth consecutive Conference Carolinas Championship. This year marks a milestone for both the team and the league, as it is the first time in history the Conference Carolinas champion has received an automatic NCAA bid—an outcome of the expanded 24-team national tournament field introduced last summer.
This will be the Trojans’ second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
The South Region includes teams from the Conference Carolinas (CC), Gulf South Conference (GSC), and the Sunshine State Conference (SSC). Each conference tournament champion earns an automatic bid, while the top three remaining teams receive at-large selections. The top two seeds in the South Region will receive first-round byes and host second-round games.
Tampa, the reigning SSC champions, claimed the top spot in the rankings with a 17-1 record and a seven-game win streak. Florida Southern, with a 17-2 record and the highest RPI in the region, sits at No. 2, followed by Embry-Riddle (16-3), Lynn (13-4), Saint Leo (13-6), and Flagler (12-5), which earned an automatic bid after winning the GSC title. Lander (13-4) placed seventh, just ahead of Mount Olive.
The NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Selection Show will stream live on Sunday, May 4, at 8:30 p.m. ET on the front page of NCAA.com, where the full bracket and matchups will be revealed.
