Goldsboro Youth Council Holds Year-End Awards Ceremony

On Wednesday, the Goldsboro Mayor’s Youth Council held its final meeting of the 2020-2021 Youth Council year.  The meeting also included an awards ceremony. Members were recognized for their service to the Youth Council, and nine graduating seniors were also recognized. GYC graduates will be attending Campbell University, NC State, UNC Chapel Hill, ECU, Liberty University, Montclair State University, and Washington & Lee University.

Mayor Pro Tem David Ham, City Manager Tim Salmon, and State Youth Council Coordinator Candace Dudley were in attendance and offered words of encouragement to the members.

  • Member & GYC Secretary Ivan Zheng was awarded a certificate of achievement for his acceptance into the NC School of Math & Science for his junior and senior years. His award was presented by WCPS Retiree Mrs. Deborah Whaley.
  • Member & GYC Vice-Chair Vismitha Taneti was awarded a certificate of participation from the State Youth Council for her service to the 2021 Women’s History Month event sponsored by the State of North Carolina.
  • Graduate & GYC Chair Kendall Leigh, a Wayne Christian graduate, is a UNC-Chapel Hill Morehead Cain Scholar.
  • Graduate Giovonnii Nelson, a Wayne School of Engineering graduate, is a NC State Park Scholar.
  • Graduate Carter Lewis, a Wayne School of Engineering graduate (ranked #3 in the class), received several scholarships and special awards from the State Youth Council.
