Grantham School Road where it crosses Thoroughfare Swamp will close Tuesday morning for a bridge-replacement project.
An N.C. Department of Transportation contractor will demolish the 67-year-old bridge and construct a modern structure with wider travel lanes and shoulders. The new bridge is scheduled to be completed by this coming October, when the road would reopen.
The marked detour will follow Suttontown Road, N.C. 55, Odom Mill Road and Crows Foot Road.
People should expect a longer commute using the detour, and they should drive cautiously when approaching the worksite.
