Hilda Louise Jernigan Chase, 72, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021. Born in Wayne County on March 17, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Jernigan and Bessie Wheeler Jernigan.

Hilda is survived by her daughters, Monica Sexton and Sandra Bailey; son, Chris Chase; longtime companion, Rickie Holloman; grandchildren, Bobby Sexton, Courtney Bailey, Ryan Chase, Matthew Tucker, Destiny Chase, and Skyler Chase; great-grandchildren, Christine Bailey, Jeremiah Sexton, Kayden Daniels, and Jordan Sexton; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jarvis Chase; daughter, Annie Mae Jernigan; sister, Margaret Best; and brothers, Frankie Jernigan and Tommy Jernigan.

Hilda was a beautiful, sweet, and loving soul who impacted the lives of everyone she encountered. She loved going fishing and reeling in her catch no matter the size. Hilda knew her way around the dance floor and it always showed. She got a great thrill from racing and from her lottery scratch-offs. Family was paramount to Hilda, and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

A visitation of remembrance will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Seymour Funeral Home.
