Ronald Field Sugg, 77, of La Grange, passed away Sunday, March 28, 2021. Ronald was born on September 18, 1943 to the late Norman and Evelyn Sugg. He was a 1961 graduate of Snow Hill High School and attended East Carolina University majoring in Business Administration until he was drafted and served seven years in the United States Coast Guard. After his time in the Coast Guard, he returned home to help on the family farm in the Jason community of Greene County. On January 4, 1970 he married the love of his life, Olia Lee. They spent years making their home a place where everyone was welcome anytime. He had a great love for his friends and family and loved visiting with them.
He had a great love for facts and had a near photographic memory. He loved being quizzed and could remember dates, times, and names of topics most have never heard of. He was a “human calculator” and could figure complicated problems in seconds. He always had a love for fast cars and loved to cruise around with the top down in his Mustang convertible. He loved farm equipment and took pride in his 1969 International 756 restored tractor. In his later years loved watching the crops being planted and harvested.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 51 years, Olia Lee; his daughter Rondi and son-in-law, Jay Smith; brothers, Roger Sugg and wife, Margaret, of Plymouth, and Dr. Keith Sugg and wife, Ann, of Winston Salem; and special friends, Edwin and Joyce Hardy, John and Alice Croom, Billy and Lillian Paderick, and Brenda Kennedy.
A service to celebrate his life will be on Thursday, April 1, 2021, at 2 p.m. at La Grange Christian Church with burial following at Fairview Cemetery in La Grange. The family will receive friends at the conclusion of the committal service at the cemetery.
