City, County Amend Agreement Regarding Maxwell Center Hotel Property

Changes are made to an economic development agreement between the City of Goldsboro and Wayne County.

The Memorandum of Understanding details the partnership between the city and county for locating a new hotel on the property next to The Maxwell Center.

City Attorney Ron Lawrence explained the changes at Monday’s meeting of the Goldsboro City Council.

Lawrence says the amendment will allow the county to market 2.65 acres for the hotel, leaving the city with 3.35 acres to market for restaurants near The Max.

The changes also reduce the city’s debt to the county for a retention pond on the parcel.

The amended Memorandum of Understanding with Wayne County was approved by the City Council.

Lawrence says the Chairman of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners has already executed the amended agreement on the county’s behalf.
