Wayne County Provides Update On Vaccination Effort

As of Wednesday, the Wayne County Health Department has administered 5,994  first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, 1,960 second doses, and has 7,115 individuals on its waiting list. Severe weather across the country has delayed our shipment of vaccine doses this week and the county has been forced to re-schedule a portion of its second dose appointments. The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services is working with the federal government to provide shipping updates to health departments across the state as the situation evolves. As soon as Wayne County’s shipment arrives, it will resume first and second dose vaccinations at the former Bussmann Building.

As we move into the next vaccination phases, county leadership is working closely with Wayne County Public School leadership to develop a plan for vaccinating teachers. At this time, there are still individuals in Phase 1 and Phase 2 who have not received a vaccine and these two groups remain a priority as more individuals become eligible in Phase 3.

While navigating through the ever-changing vaccination phases, Wayne County asks for your continued patience and understanding while working to vaccinate residents as quickly as possible with limited doses available. For more information on the COVID-19 vaccine, visit www.waynegov.com/vaccine.
