County Works Tirelessly To Get Citizens Vaccinated

It is not an easy task, but Wayne County Government employees are going above and beyond to help get the COVID-19 vaccine distributed to residents.

That was the message from County Manager Craig Honeycutt during Tuesday’s meeting of the Wayne County Board of Commissioners.

Honeycutt thanked the board for its support during the vaccination process, which he called “an overwhelming task.”

The county manager says thousands are still on the county’s wait list while only several hundred doses of the COVID vaccine arrive weekly.

Despite the difficulties, Honeycutt says helping residents — particularly elderly and at-risk residents — get their shot may be the most rewarding thing he’s ever been part of during his 29 years in local government.

Volunteers are still needed to assist with the vaccine distribution, particularly in the county’s Vaccine Call Center.

This week, Wayne County has been scheduling second dose shots for those who received their first dose at the Maxwell Center back in January.

Those 65 and older or healthcare workers looking to get on the COVID-19 vaccine waiting list can visit waynegov.com/vaccine or call the registration hotline at 919-705-1800 Monday through Friday from 10 AM – 2 PM.
