County Has “Incredible” Waiting List For COVID Vaccine

Wayne County is focused on getting the COVID-19 vaccine out to residents, but those efforts are limited to the amount of vaccine the county receives.

During Tuesday’s meeting of the county board, Wayne County Emergency Management Director Aaron Stryker said they are in need of volunteers to assist with the vaccination process.

The vaccination site is now set up at the Bussman Building.

Stryker says there are currently about 10,000 citizens on Wayne County’s vaccine waiting list.

Wayne County Manager Craig Honeycutt called the waiting list “incredible.”

Honeycutt says “there is no more important job” than getting the vaccine out right now so the community can begin to return to normal.

Commissioner Wayne Aycock says he wishes the county was able to do more, but noted the county has to depend on the amount of doses it receives from the state.

Those 65 and older or healthcare workers looking to get on the COVID-19 vaccine waiting list can visit waynegov.com/vaccine or call the registration hotline at 919-705-1800 Monday through Friday from 10 AM – 2 PM.
