Billy H. McCollum, age 75, died Thursday morning at Wayne/UNC Health Care. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late William Henry and Margaret Louise Herring McCollum. Billy was a member of Garris Chapel United Methodist Church, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a well-known insurance agent with Farm Bureau Insurance. Loved and known throughout Wayne County, Billy enjoyed farming, but mostly time spent with his grandchildren.

A graveside service to celebrate the well-lived life of Billy will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm at Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Adam Brinkley officiating. The family will greet friends at the cemetery immediately following the service observing social distancing guidelines.

Billy is survived by his wife of 58 years, Linda S. McCollum; his children, Mark J. McCollum and wife, Amanda, April McCollum Peeden and husband, Dwayne, Joshua D. McCollum and wife, Allison S.; a sister, Betsy Toots Owens; grandchildren, Sarah McCollum Williamson and husband, Ian; Rachel N. McCollum, William L McCollum, Gavin Peeden, Emily Peeden, Margaret Louise McCollum, and Henry Edward McCollum; and one great-grandchild, Abigail Williamson.
