December 20, 2020, 74, La Grange
Linda Newton Yates, 74, was released from the sickness and pain of this world into her eternal home on Sunday, December 20, 2020. Linda was born in Durham County to the late Klutz Eli Newton and Willie Margaret Strange on October 31, 1946. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Allen Yates, and children Patty Hester and Ronnie Burchette.
Linda was extremely devoted to her family. She was the best wife to her husband and a doting mother to her children. Her personality was infectious, and her ability to make anyone laugh was beyond compare. With a witty word for all, she loved to join in a chuckle with her family and friends.
Growing up in a farming family, Linda learned early on how to work hard. Later years brought her into the textile industry where she learned the skills of a seamstress, and her talent was remarkable. Following her career in textiles, she spent many years as the master biscuit maker for Biscuitville. She was excellent at her job and took great pride in her craft.
The mountains of North Carolina held a special place in Linda’s heart. No matter the season or the weather, any time was a perfect time to be in the mountains. Of all the leisurely activities to be enjoyed, nothing was better than a train ride through the hills.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date in the North Carolina mountains.
Linda is survived by her son, Ricky Yates and fiancée, Brittany Futrell; step-children, Lisa Yates and Troy Yates; and grandchildren, Eli Yates, Mariah Yates, Emma Yates, Marvin Yates, Shayler Yates, Nikki Smart, Andrew Wilson, Trevor Yates, and Savannah Ellis.
