Benny Alvarez Gutierrez, 67, went to his Heavenly Home on December 17, 2020 following a courageous battle with Covid Pneumonia.

Benny was one of nine children born in Abilene, Texas on June 30, 1953, to Angel Alvarez and Baldemar Lopez Gutierrez. Benny and his Beloved “HoneyB” (Ann Gutierrez) began their blissful 37-year matrimony on January 29,1983 after a six-year courtship, and have been absolutely smitten with one another since day one. The two loves-of-each-other’s-lives share five children: Sherayne Meready (Bruce), Stacy Gutierrez, Sherell Hamm, Eddie Carlyle (Wendy) Lisa Holland (David) and one Goddaughter, Priscilla Thompson. The two also share 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren who adore and were adored by Benny. Benny is survived by his Wife, Mother, five sisters (Carman (Dalmacio) Diaz of Windcrest, TX, Doris (Robert) Loredo of Abilene, TX, Stella (Joe) Galvan of Abilene, TX, Brenda Martinez of Abilene, TX and Becky (Daniel) Gomez of Amarillo, TX) and a brother (Wally Gutierrez of ChannelView, TX) Benny was preceded in death by his Father, (Baldemar), a brother, (Albert Rodriguez of Temple, TX), a sister (JoAnn Olvera of Abilene, TX) and a son (Eddie Carlyle of Albertson, NC).

Benny was a proud veteran of The United States Marine Corps where he served honorably for seven years. Soon after his honorable discharge as Sergeant in 1977, Benny went on to begin an incredibly impressive forty-two year career with Noland Company of Kinston, N.C. where he was employed until his death. He is dearly loved and deeply missed by all his coworkers and customers.

A Man after God’s own Heart, Benny gave his soul to Jesus on May 11, 1986 (Mother’s Day) and soon became a member of Eastern Gate (Now Freedom Fellowship) Church. Benny attended Heritage Bible College in Dunn, NC and served as Youth District Director for Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Inc. for sixteen years. He also volunteered in KAIROS Prison Ministry at Maury Correctional Institute. Benny served Freedom Fellowship Church as Youth Pastor, Deacon, and held the position of Associate Pastor for 25 years at the time of his departure for Glory. Benny and Ann had an affinity for troubled youths often opened their Home, Hearts and Bibles to anyone in need.

A memorial service to celebrate Benny’s life will be held January 10, 2021 at 3p.m. at Freedom Fellowship Church. Contributions in Benny’s memory may be made to Freedom Fellowship Church, 469 Joe Nunn Road, Kinston, NC 28504.
