Rose Ann Thomas Carter

December 5, 2020, 74, La Grange

Rose Ann Thomas Carter, 74, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020. Born in Lenoir County on October 7, 1946 to the late Annie Lee Avery Garvey.

Rose and Coon met and got to know each other over various encounters at the area grills in Kinston. Over the last 57 years, Coon admittedly has helped Rose earn the many stars in her heavenly crown. Rose was selfless, patient, nurturing, and kind; the aspects of the best mother her children could’ve ever asked for. She was an active mother and grandmother, always present at any game, banquet, or event. “Nana” was the perfect angel to her sixteen grandchildren. Rose was the best cook and Sunday lunch was a welcomed ritual each week. You could always count on a made-to-order Birthday cake each year. Rose had a giving spirit and made over 800 dresses for Samaritans Purse and participated in their shoebox drive each year. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Trinity Free Will Baptist Church in La Grange for over 33 years.

A service to celebrate Rose’s life will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery with Rev. Gerald Fowler officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Rose is survived by her husband of 57 years, Randal Earl “Coon” Carter; eight children, Donald Carter (Tammy), Debbie Teachey (Mike), Delores Foster (Carl), Sandra Whitehead (Anthony), Shawn Carter (friend, Christy Williams), Stacie Whitley (Keith), Susan Bigler (Coburn), and Michele Slavin (Jason); sixteen grandchildren, Megan, Kristen, Matthew, Benny, Brittany, Brandon, Joshua, Collin, Miles, Ray, Gage, Cassie, Hailey, Logan, Courtney, and Spencer; eleven great-grandchildren; and brothers, Gene Bratcher and Ray Bratcher.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Barahona, Dr. Randolph, Dr. Gallaher, and the UNC Lenoir 4-East Care Team for the love, compassion, and care provided to Rose in her final days.
