Unfortunately, a drive thru Be The Match Registry event had to be canceled on Friday.
However, the Be The Match Registry is still hoping to find a bone marrow donor for 10-year-old Thor Forte of Havelock who is battling sickle cell disease.
It only takes a simple cheek swab to join the registry and it’s free for those donors between 18-44 years old.
Thor is one of 10,000 patients each year who are battling blood cancer like leukemia, or life-threatening blood diseases like sickle cell disease, who are in search of an unrelated blood stem cell donor. Approximately 1 in 430 members on the registry will go on to donate life-saving blood stem cells.
You can still join the registry by texting “curethor” (all one word) to the number 61474. You can find more information online at bethematch.org.
