Sara Kornegay Head, 88, resident of the Williams Crossroads area near Mount Olive, passed away Friday morning, November 20, 2020.

The Head family will be receiving friends on Sunday, November 22, beginning at 2 p.m. at Seven Springs United Methodist Church, “the Church on the Hill,” with a celebration of life service following at 3 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Stanley Kelly and the Rev. Mary Kay Best. She will be laid to rest in Pineview Cemetery next to her late husband, Ross W. Head, Sr.

Friends and relatives are also being received at the Head residence. Memorial gifts may be made to Seven Springs United Methodist Church, c/o Lynn Hardy, 537 Ada Stroud Road, Seven Springs, NC 28578.

Mrs. Head was a native of the Beautancus community in nearby Duplin County. She graduated from Calypso High School in 1950, and during her high school years she was on the basketball team. After her marriage to Ross W. Head, she was a homemaker and farmer’s wife, duly tending to the home and children as well as assisting in farming duties. She was involved in Ross Head Stables by operating the tackle shop, selling boots and other accessories, and keeping the books of the farm and horse business. She was a member of the Seven Springs United Methodist Church and had served in the church choir for more than 35 years.

She is survived by five children, Janice Selena Head Kornegay and husband, Don Kornegay, Jr. of the Scott’s Store area, Mount Olive, Ross Wilson Head, Jr. and wife, Sandra Sutton Head, of the Williams Crossroads area, Mount Olive, Karen Joy Head Aycock and companion, Allen Baker, of the Seven Springs area, Vicky Ann Head Rose of Mount Olive, and Debora Cora Head Ewald and husband, Ron Ewald, of Front Royal, Va.; eleven grandchildren, Rhonda Jo Aycock, Crystal Aycock Bowne, William Dustin Evans, Donald Ross Evans, Ashley Nicole Head Conder, Amber Elaine Head Kelly, John Mitchell Kornegay, Cody Mills Rose, Ross Wilson Head III, Chase Adam Kornegay, and Cora Levay Head Ellsworth; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Loved ones preceding her in death include her husband, Ross W. Head, Sr.; her parents, Harry Lee Kornegay and Georgia Byrd Kornegay; great-grandchildren, Justin Frank and Kayla Evans; sisters, Rachel Jackson Minchew and Joyce Sullivan; and brothers, Eldridge “Dick” Kornegay, Everette Lee Kornegay, and Perry Kornegay.
