Anthony Wayne Crumpler, 64, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

Wayne was born in Wayne County on September 22, 1956 to the late Waitus and Edna Tilton Crumpler. He had worked for many years with O’Berry Center and later the mobile home trim business. Wayne went back to work with the State of North Carolina in 2004 as a correctional officer with the Maury Correctional Center in Hookerton and retired from there after 20 years of service with the state.

Wayne was a man of many talents from jamming on his guitar, fishing and having the ability to build whatever he saw. He was larger than life. Most importantly to Wayne was his family. Wayne worked so hard to make sure his wife and son was well taken care of. Wayne was the best daddy and papa who will be truly missed.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. in the Crumpler Family Cemetery on Stoney Creek Church Road. The family will greet friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 38 years, Teresa Bradford Crumpler; son, Derrick Wayne Crumpler and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Natalia Rene’ Crumpler, Jace Wayne Crumpler and Weston Parker Crumpler; sister-in-law, Judith Crumpler; nephews, Kevin Crumpler, Robert Deans and wife Mary Ellen and David Bertrand; and nieces, Lindsey Bertrand and Jen Bertrand.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Atlas Crumpler and sister, Connie Crumpler Bertrand.
