Gollbach Honored With Academic Award

Jeff Gollbach has been honored with an award for his academic accomplishments at Wayne Community College.

Gollbach has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and a spot on the WCC President’s List while working toward his Associate in Applied Science degree in Aviation Systems Technology and Airframe and Power Plant diplomas.

He was recognized with an Academic Excellence Award from the North Carolina Community College System. This award celebrates one student at each of the 58 community colleges in the state who has demonstrated exceptional academic achievement. Honorees receive a plaque and a medallion to be worn at their graduation ceremony.

“Jeff exhibits a commitment to his work day in and day out,” said WCC Aviation Systems Technology Program Director Mark Peeples, who nominated him for the award. “He assists and mentors classmates and seeks out additional ways to enhance his learning experiences.  Jeff speaks with young students, displaying his love for aviation and education as a whole.”

Gollbach has already been hired as a junior technician by repair facility Bass Aviation in Mount Olive because the business was impressed with his “work ethic and quality of his projects,” Peeples said.

WCC’s Aviation Systems Technology program provides the knowledge and skills for students to qualify for an aircraft mechanic’s certificate with airframe and/or power plant ratings. It offers an Aviation Systems Technology Degree, Aviation Systems Technology Airframe Diploma, and Aviation Systems Technology Power Plant Diploma. The program has been FAA Part 147-approved since 1969.
