Wayne County Records 16th COVID-19 Death

As of Tuesday morning’s update from Wayne County Government, the county had recorded 867 total positive cases of COVID-19.  It is estimated 603 of those patients have recovered.

Only 330 of the county’s total cases came from outside congregate care facilities (Neuse Correctional Institution, nursing homes, etc.)  469 of the county’s positive COVID-19 cases were reported at the Neuse Correctional Institution in Goldsboro, where the majority of those infected inmates are believed to have already recovered from the virus.

16 of the county’s COVID-19 cases have now resulted in death.  According to Wayne County, the latest coronavirus-related death was an individual in their early-60s with underlying health conditions.  The person passed away on Monday and was not from a long-term care facility.

According to the latest figures from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, there have been 19,700 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state.  691 of those cases have resulted in death.  The coronavirus has now been confirmed in all 100 North Carolina counties.
