Wayne County Public Schools prepares to reopen for more students.
At Tuesday’s special meeting of the Wayne County Board of Education, WCPS Attorney Richard Schwartz went through the new state law pushing North Carolina school districts to offer full in-person instruction for students that want to be back in the classroom.
WCPS Interim Superintendent Dr. David Lewis says the one concern voiced by teachers has been the need for additional prep time due to the dual modes of instruction.
School board member Wade Leatham made the motion to give all WCPS students the opportunity to get back to face-to-face instruction in just under two weeks.
School Board member Patricia Burden voiced her concerns over opening the schools faster than staff can properly prepare.
In a tight decision, the Board of Education voted 4 – 3 and approved reopening all Wayne County Public Schools under “Plan A” in-person instruction five days a week starting on March 29th.
Districts still have to offer remote learning options for families that are not wanting to send their kids back into the classroom.
