The local Air Force base is working to help students at a Goldsboro School.
The partnership between Seymour Johnson Air Force Base and Carver Heights Elementary School began in the fall as airmen started the “Seymour Studies” program.
On select Wednesdays, airmen tutor Carver Heights students while also providing excursions to the base.
Carver Heights Principal Winter Goodson says the initiative helps keep the students engaged in school, especially during the pandemic.
Goodson says that cooperation will expand this February with the new “Eagle Academy,” a leadership building experience for students.
The academy students – selected for their character, academic work, and serving as role models for their peers – will be exposed to a range of career and life opportunities within the military and the community.
Goodson says Carver Heights Elementary and Seymour Johnson are already talking about how to grow the programs for the next school year.
