With the number of coronavirus cases soaring in North Carolina, Gov. Roy Cooper is announcing a stricter mask requirement for the state.
On Monday, Gov. Cooper announced the new executive order will tighten North Carolina’s mask mandate. Under the new requirements, residents will need to wear a mask anytime they are in close proximity with anyone they do not live with. That includes having to wear a face covering in your own home if you have visitors.
Cooper also says the executive order also strengthens businesses’ role in ensuring patrons are wearing a face covering, limiting capacity, and maintaining social distancing.
The new restrictions will be in effect through December 11th.
As of Monday, North Carolina had recorded 339,194 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19. 5,039 f those cases have resulted in death.
Wayne County surpassed 5,000 cases of coronavirus this week. According to Monday’s figures from the Wayne County Health Department, there have been 5,030 total positive cases of COVID-19 recorded in Wayne County. There are currently 332 estimated active cases in the county. Thus far, Wayne County has recorded 110 coronavirus-related deaths.
